fashion week: jen kao

Here are the highlights and lowlights from the Jen Kao show last night:

Runway: The whole thing was sand! I got so nervous they would be in heels (thank goodness it was all sandals). I overheard someone saying that the designs in the sand were done by a guy who shows his work in Union Square.

Music: Chris Isaak - Wicked Game. For any Friends lovers out there, this is the song that's played during Rachel and Ross's first date in the museum. I couldn't stop smiling! I found that the song affected the whole pace of the show: it gave it this eerie romantic feel, which totally worked.

Clothes: These pieces would make up my ideal wardrobe while vacationing on St. Barth's. The summer knits and loose neutral fabrics were definitely speaking to me. The models looked absolutely gorgeous coming down the runway with the clothes flowing in the wind.

Hair: The wind tossed, beachy hair seems to be a trend for this season. But this was done all wrong: the hair was more slicked back with grease than anything else. It looked like it hadn't been washed in days and was both knotted and teased. Rather than make a statement, it definitely detracted from the beauty of the clothes.

Models: Bambi! Bambi! Bambi! I couldn't have been more excited to see her in real runway life. The weirdest thing was that one of the models was au naturel, as in probably never shaved her legs before. Add 20 harsh spotlights to a hairy leg and there were some looks, some laughs, and some definite photo opts.

Best outfit: Bambi's second outfit -- a silk bustier dress with knee-high gladiator sandals. Okay okay, so she could pull off wearing a garbage bag with holes for arms and legs, you might say. Well then props to Jen Kao for snagging her because she certainly did those clothes the justice they deserved.

i hope tomorrow is like today

Sarah at LuShae Jewelry was sweet enough to let me pick out something from her awesome online store. After much deliberation, I chose this gold plated HOPE ring that I have not taken off since it arrived! I've already received so many compliments on it. It's the perfect everyday ring to add to my gold collection since I am rarely caught wearing silver. When I was browsing through the rings on her site, I found the FAITH ring which I immediately fell in love with but was disappointed to find it only came in silver. Also, having creepy small fingers (yes, my ring finger is a 3 3/4 - really ridiculous) I have been wearing the ring on my middle finger, although it would be super cute for the ring finger! If y'all are interested in visiting her site click click click here and use my promotion code 866STYLES for 25% off through the month of April.

chanel tattoos in all their glory

So here they are, my beloved Chanel tattoos. I've had these on for over a week and they are just starting to fade now. Don't you worry, I showered every day. They are persistent - A++ for quality! I wanted to do the post after wearing them for a while to gauge both mine and others' reactions. Almost everyone thinks they are real at first (score!). I've found that I've been wearing much less jewelry (think bracelets and rings) and instead have been donning my Chanel necklace to match. This is three tattoos in one - two chain bracelets and one charm. Thanks to my awesome roommate for her skills from babysitting years in helping get these on, though we ruined a few others in the process (booo). I'm excited to try the others now! I'm thinking feet for the flower ones once it gets nice enough for sandals. Thoughts? Hate it, love it?

EDIT: I bought the tattoos from the Chanel website!

over the taupe

DISCLAIMER: I feel like a serious fashion victim admitting to following a trend!
source: whowhatweardaily

After seeing WWWD's post on taupe nails, I decided to try it out. I typically go for dark colors -- think black, deep blues, and almost black purples. So even though it felt like I was stepping out of the box juuust a bit, it was still in line with my need to not clash with what I'm wearing. I tried on OPI's Over The Taupe, pictured below, and have surprisingly gotten a ton of compliments so far! For now, I'm happy with the change, but I'm not sure this is a trend I'll feel the need to repeat. What do you all think?

the style spotter attempts fashion photography

Here are some of my favorite shots from my digital photo final project. This was my very first attempt at a fashion shoot where I styled and took the photos, so don't hate!!

photography and styling by me

Sooooo the last one was kind of just for fun :) I owe a huge thank you to all my models for their help! It was pretty damn cold outside. Also, I will hopefully be able to post the final photos from one of the guys in my class. They were amazing and totally inspirational. I've asked him for permission -- fingers crossed!

black tie

I went to a black tie fundraiser last week where my grandpa was honored. The decorations at the table were beautiful so I took a few pics. Damn the cold temperature from the flash!

thursday = sale day? shop PB teen!

PB Teen also has a great sale going on right now! Scroll to the bottom for cute lamps, wall decorations, furniture, and more. I'll add to this post later tonight to show some great finds that I've bought in the past. Are we ever really too old for PB Teen? I think not.

EDIT: Here are the pics of my PB Teen loot. Sexy, no?

the bicycle

After going through my downtown images, I'm really starting to like this one. I almost walked right by it without noticing how cute it was! The rusty handlebars, the flowers under the seat, and the vintage license plate. Yay for advancing camera skills!

I can't seem to take off my converses right now. No outfit feels right without them on, so I've been building my outfits around them. And if it's not this pair, it's the silver sequined low-tops or (gasp) my Ed Hardy high-tops. My other shoes are definitely getting jealous of the insane amount of wear that the converses are getting, so I will be transitioning back soon. What do you all think: are the converses here to stay or is it just another trend that's soon to blow over?

really red

Typically I am not a fan of wearing the same polish for both nails and toes. In this case, I had to make an exception for the candy apple color of Essie's "Really Red" pictured below.

Since the color in the bottle is always somewhat deceiving, here's a photo of what it looks like on. It wears as a true red: not too dark and not as pink as some other reds.

I've also recently experimented with Essie's "E! Live From the Red Carpet", which is just a bit darker but also a great choice for fall. Which other colors have caught your attention?

Came across the Macy's window downtown advertising Philadelphia Fashion Week 2009. It will be a showcase of student designers from October 8th - 10th with pop-up boutiques, fashion shows, and cocktails. Unfortunately the events only allow admittance for those 21 and older, but I will definitely try to capture as much as I can! As a lover of fashion and a student in Philadelphia, missing out on New York Fashion Week is always such a bummer. It's so exciting to see that Philly hasn't been left out of the fashion scene this year!

Bottom picture is my little sis in front of Rittenhouse Square (wearing her incredible Stuart Weitzman OTK boots).

Had to get a picture of my roommate's scarf. Super preppy, super chic.

patterned to perfection

Instead of starting out by trying to define my blog in some way or other, I thought it would make more sense to start with some street chic inspiration. Living in a city, I am not only inspired by runway looks but more so by the people I see every day. These men and women (both young and old!) simply aren't afraid to take risks.

Take this outfit, for example. It's a perfect way to seamlessly transition into fall. I love her use of different patterns, and the pajama shorts are an effortless example of the fall 2009 runway to real way. (Note: I am just getting started with my new camera, so photos will be improving I promise! I should have everything worked out in a few weeks...)

In posts to come, I'll be sharing everything I find fashionable, stylish, trendy, and inspirational. I will update as often as possible, so keep checking in!
