fashion week: jen kao

Here are the highlights and lowlights from the Jen Kao show last night:

Runway: The whole thing was sand! I got so nervous they would be in heels (thank goodness it was all sandals). I overheard someone saying that the designs in the sand were done by a guy who shows his work in Union Square.

Music: Chris Isaak - Wicked Game. For any Friends lovers out there, this is the song that's played during Rachel and Ross's first date in the museum. I couldn't stop smiling! I found that the song affected the whole pace of the show: it gave it this eerie romantic feel, which totally worked.

Clothes: These pieces would make up my ideal wardrobe while vacationing on St. Barth's. The summer knits and loose neutral fabrics were definitely speaking to me. The models looked absolutely gorgeous coming down the runway with the clothes flowing in the wind.

Hair: The wind tossed, beachy hair seems to be a trend for this season. But this was done all wrong: the hair was more slicked back with grease than anything else. It looked like it hadn't been washed in days and was both knotted and teased. Rather than make a statement, it definitely detracted from the beauty of the clothes.

Models: Bambi! Bambi! Bambi! I couldn't have been more excited to see her in real runway life. The weirdest thing was that one of the models was au naturel, as in probably never shaved her legs before. Add 20 harsh spotlights to a hairy leg and there were some looks, some laughs, and some definite photo opts.

Best outfit: Bambi's second outfit -- a silk bustier dress with knee-high gladiator sandals. Okay okay, so she could pull off wearing a garbage bag with holes for arms and legs, you might say. Well then props to Jen Kao for snagging her because she certainly did those clothes the justice they deserved.

Over the weekend I picked up Nina Garcia's Look Book: What to Wear for Every Occasion (which you can purchase here!). A lightweight chambray blouse like this one is just what I need for summer. Light denim, rolled up sleeves, add a fedora and you're good to go. Or wear it buttoned up, tucked into jeans, add J. Crew's crystal supernova necklace (on sale for $90!) and a bangin' pair of heels. (Side note about the necklace: if you're in need of some neck candy, go buy this now! Little sis bought it first and now both baby sis and I own it too. It goes with everything and is not as bright as it looks in the photo.) What's not to love about this ensemble? The Chanel tweed jacket looks amazing with the wide-legged khaki trousers. Really liking the studded cumberbund belt for a contrast with the classy feel of the Chanel tweed and purse. Simple white tank pulls this outfit together into a super inspiring look!

In the first, really into the chambray blouse under the leather jacket. The sheer and opaque alternating black tights are increds in the second photo. Sama and Haya always look put together...and that hair! In the last, the dotted tights under leather shorts with the khaki blazer is absolute perfection. Okay, okay, and that bag is pure eye candy.

chanel tattoos in all their glory

So here they are, my beloved Chanel tattoos. I've had these on for over a week and they are just starting to fade now. Don't you worry, I showered every day. They are persistent - A++ for quality! I wanted to do the post after wearing them for a while to gauge both mine and others' reactions. Almost everyone thinks they are real at first (score!). I've found that I've been wearing much less jewelry (think bracelets and rings) and instead have been donning my Chanel necklace to match. This is three tattoos in one - two chain bracelets and one charm. Thanks to my awesome roommate for her skills from babysitting years in helping get these on, though we ruined a few others in the process (booo). I'm excited to try the others now! I'm thinking feet for the flower ones once it gets nice enough for sandals. Thoughts? Hate it, love it?

EDIT: I bought the tattoos from the Chanel website!

If I looked that good in a cape I don't think I'd ever wear a jacket again! Also really love the glasses -- that style is super cute in clear frames too. Would you wear glasses that weren't prescription solely for fashion? I think I would, they're such a great accessory!

I'd love to lie and say it's good to be back, but Vegas was so much fun and Miami was beeaauutiful weather! I even managed a bit of a tan. Philly is seemingly forever rainy and overcast though it's supposed to heat up towards the end of the week -- score! This is Giovanna Battaglia's little sister, Sara (anyone else think they look really really similar??). Like Giovanna, she has an incredible sense of style. The combination of all these different pieces simply works. Yet another win for The Sartorialist.

The photo is from the Sony Bravia commercial with all the bouncy balls covering the streets of San Francisco. I think it was one of the most well-done and memorable commercials that I've ever seen.
